Our School
University Prep opened in August of 2011 with one focus – to educate every kindergarten through fifth grade child for a college degree.
University Prep is a tuition-free public charter school and is part of Denver Public Schools. We focus on college the second a child walks through our doors. With elements of college culture incorporated into each classroom and two college campus visits per year, each U Prep scholar is on the path to a four year college degree.
Academic Rigor
Three hours of daily literacy instruction with two teachers in every classroom. Eighty minutes of daily math instruction. Homework and required reading over the summer, over breaks, and every night.
Small, Safe & Structured
180 scholars in kindergarten, first and second grades in 2012-13. U Prep will grow one grade at a time, reaching no more than 360 scholars at full capacity. Scholars wear simple, professional uniforms. Teachers are one hundred percent focused on teaching and scholars are one hundred percent focused on learning.
High academic expectations for every child. Constant monitoring of academic progress and intense support and interventions for all scholars.
Family Partnership
Home visits, parent orientations, frequent teacher communication, parent workshops.
Character
All scholars learn and live our PREP values – Professionalism, Responsibility, Enthusiasm and Perseverance.
