Welcome to University Prep. We’re glad you found us.

We know that determining the right school for your child is a process. You’re considering location, academic achievement, and extracurriculars—plus looking for a place that just feels like a good fit. We’d love to talk with you more about U Prep (give us a call or send us a message to set up a visit), but, to start, here’s a short overview of what we’re all about.

The Big Picture

University Prep operates two tuition-free, public charter schools in northeast Denver that serve students from kindergarten through fifth grade. One is located in the Five Points neighborhood, the other in Clayton.

Our mission is to prepare every child—we call them “scholars”—for a four-year college degree and a life of opportunity. To do that, we focus on three key things…

A Focus on Academic Excellence

Achieving that mission begins with providing scholars with a solid academic foundation. We’ve built a challenging curriculum that will set students up for future success. Our schools are safe spaces for children to ask questions and experiment, and our staff provides support and encouragement as students work to master new skills both inside and outside of the classroom.

We also incorporate technology at all levels as learning to use these platforms is necessary to success in our modern world. That doesn’t mean students are in front of screens all of the time; part of the goal of this is to help teach balance in an increasingly connected society.

A Focus on Building Good People

Another key part of our mission is character development. In order to succeed, our scholars must be confident, resilient, and kind. In addition to learning reading, math, and science, we work on cultivating our PREP values: Pride, Responsibility, Enthusiasm, and Perseverance. These values are integrated into every aspect of school life so we can help our scholars grow into well-rounded, community-minded adults.

A Focus on the Future

The third prong of our approach to education is vision: You can only dream as far as you can see, and we want to make sure our scholars see far. All children deserve to learn about the opportunities that exist beyond their classrooms. That’s why we take every grade level on college campus tours and bring in professionals from a variety of sectors. We want our scholars to experience firsthand the broad range of schools and careers that are available to them.

Opportunities for Extracurricular Activities

School is hard work—but it’s also fun. Play is critical to childhood development. From recess to TK to TK, U Prep understands that opportunities outside of the classroom contribute to growing our scholars into well-rounded individuals. They also create space for them to build friendships and develop all-important social, communication, and problem-solving skills.

The Role of Parents

Parental involvement is a critical piece of a child’s education. AtUniversity Prep, we work alongside parents, connecting with them even before the first day of school. Expect regular communications on how your child is doing. This is a team effort. So, we also want parents to be engaged in their child’s education, checking in on homework or reading a book together before bedtime.

Have questions? Ready to set up a school tour? We’d love to meet you.
